Because of a recent request from a hallmate for an analysis between the match of Virgo-Sagittarius, I've decided to add a new "special" kind of blog post. For each Astrological sign, I will be analyzing its match with all the other signs beginning with Sagittarius, as the analysis was requested by a Sagittarius and going through the signs of people on my hall first. My hallmates, or Customs Group, includes two Sagittarius', two Capricorns, two Geminis, two Scorpios, an Aries, a Taurus, a Virgo (though technically two b/c our HA is also a Virgo), an Aquarius, and a Pisces. After I've finished all the signs in roughly that order, I will then finish with the remaining signs - Cancer, Leo, and Libra. I will not make redundant match analysis' (ex. Sagittarius - Aquarius is the same as Aquarius - Sagittarius, so I will not repeat the analysis when I analyse the matches for Aquarius). My first post (for Sagittarius) will appear sometime over the next week (so it should be posted by next Tuesday).
One thing to keep in mind about Astrological matches (for romantic relationships specifically) is that although a match may typically be a "bad" one, matches are dependent upon Moon Signs and Ascendants, as well as the sexes of those in each sign. In these posts, I will analyse only the compatibility of Sun signs and the role gender plays in it. I will not analyse how the Moon and Rising signs play a role.
Initially written (and perhaps even written in another context before) in 1996 by George R.R. Martin, "'When you play the game of thrones, you win or die.'" Now it has become a go-to topic. A Game of Thrones, the first book in "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, tells a sci-fi tale of kingdoms at war within themselves. There is the major/main kingdom in the West, the Free Cities, the Dothraki Grasses, and the kingdoms in the East (which based on the first book seem to be under-developed compared to the West). The main kingdom is mostly divided into two parts, The North and The South; typically they don't get along very well. Also, above The Northern portion, there is "the land beyond the Wall", which is not ruled by man; it is a land of magic and mystery (at least in the first book).
Until the above quote is said more than half-way through the book, it isn't the prevalent theme of the book(forgive me if this literary term isn't being used correctly). You don't even really know where the book is going until that point. The book is a little hard to get into because it jumps around and you don't necessarily care what's going on in each place until you get to the actual theme, then you can't put the book down, but that's 408 pages in!
Now, you either win or die. There is no single victor in this book... But the book doesn't end with the end of the game either; the throne has yet to be won. Eddard dies as soon as he begins to play the game because he honorably reveals to Queen Cersei that he knows that her children are not actually the king's. Nobody wins the game with honor, only deceit. Khal Drogo dies after he agrees to take back the throne for his wife and future son. King Robert obviously dies as he is unable to truly hold/keep/control/protect the throne. Rhaegar's family is all eventually killed, excluding only Daenerys and Maester Aemon. However, Daenerys did not decide to play the game truly until essentially the end of the book (on another note, notice that a total of three lives were lost in order to create her three dragons; her son, her husband, and the maegi). Maester Aemon isn't playing the game because he stays out of it entirely, guarding the Wall. Lord Arryn dies when also trying to crown the "true" king, while his wife and son live as they flee from the politics of the kingdom, hiding away in their mountain castle. Lord Stannis doesn't die, but he stays out of it all at Dragonstone. This leaves Daenerys, Queen Cersei and her family, and Lord Renly, plus the confusion of Lord Baelish and Lord Varys, to fight it out.
My prediction is that Daenerys will team up with Lord Stannis. She has her three baby dragons; Lord Stannis is staying at Dragonstone. In my oppinion, Lord Stannis does not believe himself to be the rightful heir either; I believe he believes that Daenerys is the true heir to the throne. Daenerys also represents magic, the Free Cities, the main kingdom, and the Dothraki through her connections and experiences. However, I don't know that it really matters who takes the crown in the end until the land beyond the Wall is taken care of... Just based off of the titles of the other books, we've begun our game and the pieces have been narrowed down and have moved forward; Kings Renly and Joffrey and Robb will clash in the next book, leaving out Daenerys for now; swords will bring chaos with the problems on the Wall and beyond, plus the storm of swords that Daenerys will bring with her; crows will feast in the North when the Wall fails/falls (poor Bran!); and finally, Daenerys will win the crown with Lord Stannis' help and a new age of dragons will begin.
And now for my observations about how annoying the resemblances are in random details between A Game of Thrones and The Hunger Games. For starters, both "A Song of Ice and Fire" series and "The Hunger Games" series call each of their installments "Book #". With regards to titles, do I really have to say anything? Another resemblance, is "the girl on fire". Daenerys emerges from flames unharmed other than her burnt hair with her three baby dragons hanging on her, symbolizing her true entrance into the game and igniting rebellion against the norm of Dothraki customs while gaining the undying loyalty of the "underdogs" of society. Katniss was set on fire and came out unharmed by it at the opening ceremonies before she literally steps foot in the games; she ignites rebellion and gains the loyalty of supporters through her fiery actions while in the Hunger Games. In both games, you either win or die. At the end of the Hunger Games, two victors emerge; at the end of this game, a few temporary victors emerge. Lord Petyr Baelish's, the man in love with Catelyn Stark (think about the names...Katniss...Mellark...Peeta), who also cannot have her because she had to marry a Stark, sigil is a mockingbird. He also is a great speaker and deceives others easily. And just to mention the foil, Lord Petyr Baelish is the master of coin, while Lord Eddard Stark (Catelyn's husband and Lord of Winterfell) represents snow (bastards from the North are given the last name "Snow" and he does have a bastard). On page 427, Lord Petyr Baelish is described as "clad in a blue velvet tunic with puffed sleeves, his silvery cape patterned with mockingbirds" just before Eddard begins the rebellion in the kingdom (book cover of Mockingjay?) Lord Varys has his "little birds" who tell him secrets and information of the goings on in the kingdoms, much like the jabberjays. Lord Varys also is initially described as "plump, perfumed, powdered...wore a vest of gold thread over a loose gown of purple silk, and on his feet were pointed slippers of soft velvet...flesh was soft and moist, and his breath smelled of lilacs" (pages 145-146). Lord Varys is also described on page 161 as "smelled as foul and sweet as flowers on a grave." Both quotes are similar to descriptions of President Snow in "The Hunger Games" series. Also, in the main town where the Red Keep is and the king lives, the courtly people dress much more lavishly than anywhere else in the country, but I suppose that just may be more of something expected than something overly similar to that of the people of the Capital in Panem. During the jousting tournament, a young knight dies and Eddard declares, "'This was needless. War should not be a game'" (page 256). I don't think that needs more explanation. Eddard gets a leg wound that greatly debilitates him, like Peeta in "The Hunger Games" series. As indirectly stated by Lord Varys on page 531, there are no scruples against killing children in this game. Birds called "snow shrikes" warn in a line of calls from one to another of the impending attack on page 583. Birds are essentially the main form of communication and warnings throughout both series.
*since reading further in the series and rereading this blog post, I have discovered that another similarity between Katniss and Daenerys is their braids.

A person's Ascendant, or Rising Sign, is determined based on where and when they were born. You have to be very exact with this (be as specific as possible for where you were born and the date and time of your birth). An Ascendant defines the image you project to others. It usually creates the "first impression". Your Ascendant plus your Sun Sign are typically what is shown in your outward personality, while your Moon Sign is more hidden. Your Ascendant determines your most comfortable and familiar behavior, because it is the sign that was rising when you exited the womb. Because of your familiarity and comfort within the behaviors attributed to this sign, the best possible match for you (relationship) is someone with their Sun Sign the same as your Ascendant. If you can find someone with the Sun Sign of your Ascendant and the Ascendant of your Sun Sign, you should be perfectly compatible and comfortable around each other. Below are characteristics of each Ascendant:
Aries:
Characteristics: adventurous, leader, dictating, egotistical, bossy, expressive, honest, straightforward, enthusiastic, doing, generous, lively, friendly/people-oriented, bold, quick to lose interest, quick tempered
Dislikes: deception, when people don't get to the point, being overlooked

Dislikes: any sort of restriction, having nothing to do, being proven wrong
Health: need more rest than willing to allow
Features: quick-moving and often glistening eyes, constantly moving/fidgeting, friendly smile, grace and agility, look youthful even with age (that doesn't mean that you won't go gray and get wrinkles as quickly as anyone else)

Although sun signs are a great indication of matches, one's ascendant should also be compatible. For example, if someone like me had an Aries ascendant (or rising sign), then someone with an Aries sun sign would be compatible with me.
Things to know about about each sun sign when it comes to love:
Aries: They must always be the dominant partner in any relationship; they will want to be in control of the dates. Also, Aries people are very combative and are prone to argue about anything. They are good with people who will listen patiently to them and follow them around (Pisces). A match with Gemini will always bring about fun and they will NEVER shut-up when together. I have a lot of Aries and Gemini friends and they are the most playful people when they are together. One bad thing with the match is that they will never be serious and deal with important things. Something to remember about Aries people is that they are not necessarily loyal and will serve themselves before anyone else.
Taurus: Taurus people almost always need to have their way. They are the most stubborn of all when they want something. A (possibly) good thing is that there will always be consistency in a relationship with a Taurus person. They also are very committed once they choose to enter into an exclusive relationship. From my observations, Taurus men do best with Cancer women, but not necessarily the other way around.
Gemini: Gemini people are most likely to be seducers (whether male or female), unlike Sagittarians who are always on the hunt for another person; Gemini people act completely selfishly, but not just for the short term. Almost everything a Gemini will do is for their own benefit in some way. They will easily become bored or annoyed if the relationship gets sour or hits a low point. They must always be able to float around happily in their circumstance or they will fly away from it.
Cancer: Cancers are very, very moody people. They are ruled by the moon (which has a 28-day cycle). Like the other cycle typically on a 28-day routine, they enter different levels of moodiness with each passing day. Cancers are prone to fall for Gemini people because of their flirtatiousness. However, Gemini people dislike the moodiness of Cancers. Cancers are constantly led on by selfish Gemini who's just in for the fun of it. Cancer should avoid the Gemini trap and seek people of a signs which can handle the Cancer moodiness, like Taurus and Pisces. Cancer people are very home-bound and have a lot of "mommy" issues. They are most comfortable in places they are familiar with and will most likely not want to move away from the place they call home, especially if their mother lives nearby.
Leo: As the lions of the zodiac, they take on a laid-back, yet fierce nature. Leos, like Capricorns are very loyal, but with Leos, they are loyal from the first greeting (while Capricorns must first decide to trust you when you have proved your worth). Leo men are best matched with Libras and Capricorn women (Libras because they know how to please each other and Capricorns because they are still allowed dominance, but have an equally loyal partner). Leo women are one of the most difficult to match because they are very difficult to please. Leo women give their loyalty and praise easily, but are also easily hurt when the loyalty and praise is not reciprocated. Unlike the good match between Leo men and Capricorn women, Capricorn men are not good for Leo women because Capricorn men are too melancholy. Libra and Sagittarius men can be all right for Leo women if the men can be tied down. Leo women also have trouble giving up their dominance, which can be frustrating for other signs, especially feminine ones (water and earth signs). One final thing about Leos is that they rise and set with the sun as Cancers cycle their moods with the moon. Leos would wake up as the sun rises and go to bed as it sets if they could. They are much more likely to prefer a day-time picnic than a night-time outing, a romantic dinner, or a movie.
Virgo: Virgos are one of the two most difficult to read signs of the zodiac (Pisces being the other). Virgos are timid and shy when it comes to sharing their feelings and deciding to love. They are likely to be quiet and not share their level of commitment with their partner(which is why they are not a perfect match with Capricorns because Capricorns must know that their partner is equally committed for them to feel comfortable in a relationship). Virgos have trouble expressing their feelings because they believe that feelings should be repressed. They are likely to reason out everything rather than going with their gut. In my opinion, they are better left alone to fulfill their name.
Libra: Libras are a very playful sign. They can be matched well with Gemini because of that, but they are less selfish because of their constant desire to create balance. Libras do not deal well with conflict because they are most happy when they have balance in the world. Leos are considered to be a very good match for Libras because both signs know how to please the other with praise and flattery, things they both seek.
Scorpio: Scorpios are a mysterious sign, but can usually be identified by being the most possessive in relationships. When they are in a relationship they become extremely watchful of their partner and are prone to jealousy. Capricorns take this as a sign of loyalty and therefore stability, so they are matched well with this sign. Pisces is another good match for Scorpio because they both have mystery about them, which creates a constant challenge for each to understand the other. They remain faithful to each other by constantly checking up on the other.
Sagittarius: As I said earlier, Sagittarians are always on the hunt. They enjoy the chase of winning someone over especially because they believe themselves to be in love with the one they are chasing after. But, after they have caught the one they love, they are prone to quickly become bored with that person and want to find another to chase. They are like forest fires; after burning down one plot of a forest and dying out, one last spark finds another piece of forest to then devour. For some reason, Aquarius people seem to anchor Sagittarians the best.
Capricorn: Capricorns are the most prone to keep their relationships to what they deem "appropriate". Each Capricorn maintains their own thoughts on what their relationships should be like. Two attributes Capricorns have in relationships is that they are very loyal and will always stick to their word and that they are very passionate. You know that a Capricorn likes you if they open up to you, so be very careful with them if they do, because if you end up untrustworthy after they have opened up, it will become even more difficult for them to open up in their next relationship or ever with you again.
Aquarius: Aquarians are the most compatible sign in the zodiac. They always mean well and are quite open to people. I don't know too much about Aquarians, but I do know that an Aquarius-Aquarius match is the best on the zodiac because they understand each other and like each other; whereas a Capricorn-Capricorn pair may understand and respect each other, but will not really like to spend too much time around each other.
Pisces: As one of the most difficult signs to understand on the zodiac, Pisces can be a frustrating match, but they are very romantic people and hard to resist. If you can get one to commit, then their only big flaw is their fickleness in both emotions and choices of lifestyle. They are the absolute most emotional sign on the zodiac so take care when around a Pisces.
